The Robotic Inspection Vehicle is a low profile (30 mm/11⁄4") magnetically supported robotic vehicle that can carry the Chattock of the EL CID stator core fault test equipment along the stator core of an electric generator or a large electric motor. The automated scanning at a fixed speed provides easier testing and more consistent results than an EL CID core fault test performed manually. Leading OEM's and power utilities have successfully used the RIV on large generators for EL CID testing and to carry other transducers such as mini-cameras and Wedge Tightness Detector probes.

Robotic Inspection Vehicle™ (RIV) Features
  • Width adjustment via two lockable sliding bars
  • Magnetically self supporting on steel surface
  • Guidance system detects the edges of the stator teeth to follow a straight line
  • Side plates give additional guidance when wedges are recessed or when wedges and coils are removed
  • Curvature adjustment accommodates the tractor in stator cores of various sizes
  • Distance measurement via encoder wheel
  • Chattock sense coil is clamped into spring loaded shoes so that the ends of the coil press lightly against the core
  • AUTO mode allows the RIV to stop at a pre-set distance and then move only in the opposite direction

The Iris Power RIV Camera System Model 752 provides a flexible system for Rotor-in-Place inspections of large generators. It is fitted to the Iris Power Robotic Inspection VehicleTM which can be moved along the stator slots. The camera system includes an integral light. The camera and light are directed at a 45°mirror, which can be remotely rotated through 360°to allow scanning of the stator or rotor as well as looking forward along the air-gap. The camera can also be focused remotely. The system allows a visual inspection of the generator stator and rotor, including checking the air vents for debris, without removing the rotor. The video output is displayed on a 150mm color TFT LCD integral monitor in the control unit. Composite video output is provided for feeding to a second monitor or video recorder.

Robotic Inspection Vehicle Camera™ (RIV) Features
  • Low profile (30mm) allows rotor-in-place testing
  • Scans image while conducting wedge tightness, ELCID or other tests
  • High resolution large bright image
  • Display video on included monitor and record through video output
  • Image can be adjusted for angle and focus
