A customer was commissioning a new 45 MVA power transformer delivered by an overseas manufacturer. During the test, ADWEL's Digital Winding Resistance ReporteR, DWR-10, was consistently issuing a warning of current interruptions, and did not complete the test. Another DWR-10 instrument was used with similar outcome. All other standard measurements, including TTR, Tan-Delta and insulation resistance indicated acceptable resistance value.
Nevertheless, the customer drained the oil and inspected the transformer to detect that the windings on all 3 phases were not properly secured to the bushings. Had the transformer been energized, a catastrophic failure could have occurred.
IRMC 2010
This year’s IRMC, held in Orlando, Florida, was another success with 75 people participating in 4 training courses and in the technical program where 15 papers were presented. There were many opportunities to meet with colleagues and share experiences.

IRMC DUBAI 2011
As a result of the success of the North American Iris Rotating
Machine Conference for 13 years, we will be holding the first Regional
conference in Dubai in February 2011.
This conference will have training opportunities and state-of-the-art
presentations by experts in the fields of partial discharge, switchgear, and
transformers. Further information will be given as we progress
with the program.
