Unlike periodic on-line PD testing, the BusTrac instrument provides the maintenance professional with an opportunity to:

  • Automate the measurement (on-site or remotely).
  • Integrate the key trending parameters within the plant SCADA
  • Trigger a remote alarm indicating the need for a more detailed review of the data.

The instruments use the same sensors that have been permanently installed on turbo-generators over the last two decades by most major utilities around the world. The instruments are supplied with a termination panel that contains a multiplexer allowing the sequential monitoring of multiple pairs of couplers installed on the generators.

The instruments can be programmed to run in two common modes:

  • Single-shot mode: - The monitor is triggered either through the front panel keypad or remotely using a host computer running the TracCon set-up and communication software. The single PDA measurement can be viewed and analyzed using PDView and AdvanceView software.
  • Continuous operating mode: - The instrument can collect data several times per hour, and archives the Qmax and NQN data. These results are important for trending and comparing similar hydrogenerators. The data for the day and the month is summarized and archived for as long as two years. It can be downloaded through a local RS232 port or remotely using the TracLink software.

The optional OPC interface allows users to integrate partial discharge (PD) data from continuous on-line PD monitoring instruments, through a LAN, into external applications for alarming, displaying and/or trending. The OPC interface eliminates the need of a custom software application to display PD data. Multiple OPC clients are supported. Click here for more information - PDF
