A customer was commissioning a new 45 MVA power transformer delivered by an overseas manufacturer. During the test, ADWEL's Digital Winding Resistance ReporteR, DWR-10, was consistently issuing a warning of current interruptions, and did not complete the test. Another DWR-10 instrument was used with similar outcome. All other standard measurements, including TTR, Tan-Delta and insulation resistance indicated acceptable resistance value.
Nevertheless, the customer drained the oil and inspected the transformer to detect that the windings on all 3 phases were not properly secured to the bushings. Had the transformer been energized, a catastrophic failure could have occurred.

The RFAII-R is a portable instrument specifically designed to perform on-line rotor flux measurement in 2 and 4 pole Turbo-Generators and high speed synchronous motors. The RFAII-R can be connected to the IRIS TFProbe or other types of flux probes that have been installed in the air gap. The instrument determines the condition of the rotor winding insulation based on multiple algorithms and can be used for a spot measurement or automatic data acquisition over several days without intervention from an operator. The instrument can usually provide an initial diagnosis of the rotor winding condition even if the generator load is constant. The instrument comes equipped with user selectable USB or Ethernet communication ports and can store over 150 flux measurements in internal memory.
